For Summer 2008, SEACAMP San Diego will be offering two sessions of SEACAMP II and one session of SEACAMP III in San Diego. Students enrolling in the SEACAMP II and III sessions are NOT required to be SCUBA certified to attend. All students snorkel. Some students may qualify and wish to participate in the SCUBA Program during a SEACAMP II or III session.
Students age 14 or older who wish to SCUBA dive must fulfill one of two requirements: they can already be certified divers (holding a current certification card for Open Water Diver or above) or be Referral Divers completing their certification (have completed their classroom and pool work at a dive shop at home, and SEACAMP can provide an instructor to complete their Open Water dives).
Students wishing to participate in SCUBA must also complete a medical questionnaire with their parent/guardian. Any “yes” answers on page one of the form necessitate a physician’s clearance (pages 2 – 6) in order to dive while at SEACAMP.
SCUBA Medical Form
To make sure students get credit for training dives completed with SEACAMP San Diego, student Referral Divers should talk to their local dive shop regarding referral policies and call the SEACAMP office for more information about SCUBA certification. SEACAMP needs to have all required forms by June 1, 2008 to ensure an instructor will be available for the session.
All SEACAMP II and III SCUBA students will participate in an initial shallow bay session to evaluate their skills and acclimate to equipment. Student divers are led by SEACAMP San Diego staff who hold Divemaster or Instructor ratings. Small dive groups allow for individualized attention and specialized dive goals, according to each student’s particular area of research.
Students may use their own dive gear or gear can be rented at SEACAMP for a nominal charge. SEACAMP II and III students who register for SCUBA will receive more information and required forms with their registration packets. See below for current rental and instructional fees.
