Our school year program runs from September to November, and again from February to June. We offer a variety of age-appropriate programs that can be customized to fit within any curriculum or specific group’s needs. SEACAMP San Diego prides itself on program flexibility - our Marine Science Instructors can tailor labs and activities to your group’s level and interests. Schedules incorporate the wide range of studies within marine science, scientific research and lots of hands-on field activities.
It is SEACAMP's goal to supplement traditional marine biology classroom study by providing a hands-on marine science education program to students of all ages. SEACAMP's curriculum encompasses the fields of marine biology, marine mammals, marine ecology and physical oceanography. Students are exposed to the latest advancements in each of these fields. SEACAMP provides students with an opportunity to examine various areas of marine science through study in the classroom and lab as well as in the natural environment. Students not only learn specific information in fields including oceanography, biology, ecology, and physiology, but also have the opportunity to learn about the research process and career opportunities in these fields.
Hands-on instruction is used in all labs, workshops and demonstrations. Classroom/lab instruction is combined with field study including snorkeling, kayaking, student participation at sea on a research vessel, tidepool exploration (tides permitting), an introduction to SCUBA in confined water, and much more.
We will help you begin planning your SEACAMP session by providing you with a customized informational packet including a flyer and parent information for your group. Simply notify us of how many registration packets you will require so we can send them to you to hand out to your students. Your students will return the forms with their deposits to you and you then send them to SEACAMP San Diego.
SEACAMP maintains complete liability and medical insurance and will make copies of this policy available to you or your school district upon request. SEACAMP is an approved vendor of many school districts throughout the country.
Your students will be excited about participating in this science-intensive, educational adventure. They will gain knowledge in various areas of marine science, obtain hands-on experience in labs and in the outdoor environment, hone their skills in recreational activities such as snorkeling and kayaking, learn about the world of scientific research, and examine the possibilities for careers in science. These experiences, as a supplement to schoolwork, will enrich not only their scientific knowledge but also their powers of observation, their critical thinking skills, their ability to take on challenges and try new things; it will better their ability to make friends and adjust to unfamiliar environments, and heighten their awareness of the natural world. |
